Union Springs Ala Aug 4 1867
Maj Genl Wager Swayne

Dr Sir

At the request of Harriet, wife of Clem Zimerman I write to inquire if you know anything of Clem. He left Harriet & her children here some three weeks ago and she has heard nothing from him since. His intention was to go to Montgomery. She is very uneasy about him and has the entire charge of the support of her two children, while he has left them without a change clothing & no provisions for support save what she might earn. If Clem is in Montgomery he ought to be made to return and supply his family at least with their clothing & bedding which he has never taken steps to remove from Babers so she informs me. Clem has a brother in Montgomery - named Wm Flemming. Harriet has been in my employ for about a week and seems disposed to do her duty in all respects. She looks confidently to you for information respective her husband as she thinks he went directly to you he having, so she says, been in your employ heretofore.

Very Resply
