Sir- [[stamp]] THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE UNITED STATES[[/stamp]]
I have had an interview with the colored man, Speed, who has been charged with disturbing the citizens about Chunnenuggee by "parading his leaguers on the Sabbath day." He denies having paraded any, except while burying members of his League, according to the ceremonies of the Order, which was done at a church owned by the colored people. Judging him by his private conversation, and by his speech delivered in this City on the night of the 5th Inst., I would not take him to be a very great disturber of the peace, unless it be of those who are opposed to equal rights. A report of his speech here has been forwarded to the "Sentinel" for publication.

I am, sir,
Very respectfully,
Your Obt. Servt.
