Offie Sub Asst Comr. Bureau RF and A.L. Huntsville Ala. September 30th 1867 O.D. Kinsman Sub Asst Commissioner Montgomery Ala. Sir Your communication of the 24th inst. relative to the birth place of D.C. Turrentine has been recieved and in answer thereto I have to say, that the name of Mr Turrentine was omitted from the Dist for the reason that he failed to take the oath and was not receiving pay at the time the Dist of Civilian Employees was made. It was not my understanding of your letter calling for this Dist, that any names should appear thereon other than those who were drawing pay. The mail communication between this place and where Mr Turrentine is located is so uncertain that it would take at least one month to get a reply from him. -I think Mr Turrentine's birth place is Alabama. Very Respectfully Your obedient servant Jno B Callis Bt. Brig Genl & Sub Asst. Com
