Sir.. 

During Christmas holidays last I hired a Freed woman by the name of Harriet Patrick and a few Days after I hired the woman Harriet a Man by the name of Slaton of Macon County came and claimed the said Freedman on Bound Papers she having been bound by the Probate Court of Macon  County to the said Slaton some time in Dee past  at fourteen years of age the said Freed woman being over eighteen years of age at the time she was bound she being ignorant of the fact that she was of age which you will see by enclosed certificate how the said woman is or was anxious to live with me if she could get released from Mr Slaton I have made all efforts to have her released and have failed & carried the enclosed certificate to the Probate Judge of Macon Co who bound the woman to Mr Slaton and he refused to release her without the consent of Mr Slaton Now Mr Slaton refuses to give up the woman Now I wish to know by what process the woman can get release from Mr Slaton as she was very unwilling to stay with him and wishes to live with me as her Uncle & Aunt are on my plantation she having no Parents protect her
