Genrl Swane

Dear Sir
I feel it is my duty to make known to you the condition of our county.
First the loyal Whiteman and Freedmen of this county are very much embarrassed; owing to the heavy threats from the disloyal or cecessionist. There is a party organizing in this County known as the union Republican party. There was a colored council organized on the 18th inst at Corn Grove Beat No 12 which council is deterred from convening from threats of being mobed and burnt up and some of the members are fearful of their lives being taken. Consequently, we as loyal men feel that it would be to the interest of the County to have your advise; if not assistance.
Respectfully,
John H. DeArman
