Wetumpka are against me with the single exception of Thomas Smith, Esq.  To day White engaged in the examination of Witnesses I was given the [?] lie by Thomas Williams and nocked down by him and yet he is permitted to go at large notwithstanding, it was done in the presence of Ready this happened about an hour ago and I am undecided whether to abandon the suit as the attorney of Lewis Curlee or not as I believe that I am in eminent danger of being assassinated and from what has been manifested by a [portion?] of the people of this city I feel my self constraining to call upon you for protection.  I cannot feel safe in conducting this trial unless you send to my relief military aid it will in my opinion occupy Monday and Tuesday at least before all the testimony can be had in the case. I regreat very much, General, to make these complaints to you but I do it honestly in good faith, my motives are pure and I am satisfied that unless you give me the aid that I ask that Justice will not be attained in this case.
