I rec'd a telegram this day calling me immediately to Kingston Ga. I shall go up in to nights train. hoping to return on Wednesday Night. to leave again on Thursday Night for Washington.

Will you be pleased at your leisure to prepare me a letter to Genl Howard. and any friends in the Senate that can assist me in carrying through not only the bill Consolidating the Offices, but as far as you may feel inclined, and you may think well of it. So to amend the bill as to make it a salaried office.
