Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
Sub-District of Greenville,
Greenville, Ala., March 15th 1867

O.D. Kinsman,
Superintendent
Dear Sir:
I have the honor to state in regard to the matter of Mr. Stoughton that I have communicated [[strike]] with [[/strike]] to him by the most direct means the wishes of the General commanding. I feel that it is proper for me to inform you, however, that since the first communication on the subject, I have learned facts derogatory to his general character, though none, perhaps, that would cast discredit on the testimony he may have to offer.

Very Respectfully
Your obt. Servt.
