Auburn June 3d 1866

Gen. Pope

I have to appeal to you or have justice shown me. I contracted to stay at Mr Isaic Hills of this place, for this year, but after staying there awhile found out that I could not do the work that had been done by three before I went there, I told them I was [[strikethrough]] disappointed [[/strikethrough]] disatisfied and wished to leave. They told me I could not do so - if I attempted it they would put me in jail. I have no husband - but one man by the name of Manuel Mitchell had been coming to see me for nearly two years. Mr Hill told me if I agreed to stay with him this year, he would not say anything but stand between me and the law, after I left them he has prosecuted me for living in adultery although the man has quit coming to see me,
Mr Hill says I will have it either go to jail pay - or [[strikethrough]] stay [[/strikethrough]] go back to his home and work it out. - The Court is in session in Opelika now and I understand I will have to go this week. There is no justice in it. What can I do. Can you not help me. If so I will be everlasting grateful, -

Obedient Servant
Elizabeth Glenn
