one McCann was the prosecutor, and has possession of all the articles which he says were stolen besides every thing belonging to the accused girl. What right has he to her property? Can such things be permitted? To accuse a defenceless girl of theft and hurry up an investigation, send her to the chain gang five months without a change of clothing and refuse to deliver and claim that the girls clothing belongs to them by reason of her accusations. I am informed by the judge of Probate (who is the agent of the Bureau for Russell County)that he cannot pardon this unfortunate girl and she is thus left to the miserable servitude of the chain gang, for a minor offence, for so great great a length of time, unless your clemency is invoked to relieve her of what I conceive a very grievous, unusual, and I may add unmerited punishment. Whilst I am a stern advocate for holding offenders to the penalty of the law yet I incline to be merciful on this girl, (if guilty) has sufficiently atoned by the service she has been made to render the county and it will be a lasting  lesson to her. her situation is one of sore perplexity and trouble. The humiliation, the degradation and defamation of a pure character when just entering upon a new sphere of life, where a good name is of paramount to her well doing, is rendering her wretched, and woe-be-gone, to a degree that excites the sympathy of the most callous. Now my Dear Sir let me ask you that you will grant to this unfortunate young and inexperienced creature a full, and free pardon, and exemption from the penalties inflicted upon her that she may seek
