I am determined that as far as in my power lies that the freedmen shall be dealt fairly by, and it is near the time when they may be discharged for a trifling offence, perhaps none, and the employers get the crop and the poor negro be swindled out of his proportion. In the event such a thing happens, please inform me what to do in order to protect the freedman.
