Renumeration I remained at Irondale for 9 months and many days passed in which food was scarce money had been promised and was beleived by all those who labored there that we all might be paid. and as confidence was placed in me and I was clerk in the companys large commissary I felt sanguine if any got any money I would now that Idica[[?]] was frustrated and that to my ruin financially when they paid us off it was in such paste board a specimen of which I send to you now as I have been so misled and foiled in my desire to do well. I ask of you assistance to reach my home.
It may be that to know my status Better I would remark that I have been in the Army of the U.S. serving as Sergt. in the 14th R.I.H.A. I have commendations from his Excellency Gov. Smith R., & Senator Sprague Col. Benedict and many others officers and civillians and as I am in need of assistance to reach home I most respectfully beg your assistance in my behalf. and to verify what I have said should you desire I would send my papers to you for perusal.
