Sir, 

Your communication of Aug. 16th 1867,informing me that it has been stated at your Office that in the levying of an execution against the property of a Mr. Childs, whose place is some three miles from Eutaw, a certain number of bales of cotton,- (towit 18.) the property, by contract of certain freedmen, was taken in satisfaction of part of said Execution; & directing me to make a report of this case at once to your Office, has ben recd. 

In reply I report, That Foster M. Kirksey uncovered a judgment against Frederick L. Chiles in the Circuit Court of Green Co. Ala. on the 19th day of October 1863 for $2.725.38, & another judgment in the same Court against the same party on the 20th day of April 1864 for $542.13; that on the 19th day of Novr. 1866 Pluries Executions were issued on both of said judgments by D.B. Butler, Clerk of said Court, returnable to the Spring Term of said Circuit Court, which Executions were placed in my hands on the day they were issued; that on the 19th day of December 1866, Foster M. Kirksey, the plaintiff in said Executions, pointed out to me six (6.) bales of cotton, which bales were unmarked & stored in the ware-house at Finch's Ferry in said County about 3 miles from Eutaw, & about 5 miles by the public road from the evidence of said F.L. Chiles, as the property of said Chiles & directed me to levy said Executions on said cotton, that whom the said
