The State of Ala. 
Pike County

Magistrate Court held at Chine Grove Aug 18th 1867
 
For the purpose of reinvestigating the case between the freedman Liven Colvin plaintiff and P.Y. Grant defendant. Plaintiff v.s. defendant for wages for the year 1866. Plaintiff Leven Colvin states that he worked for Mr P.Y. Grant defendant seven months and one week and was to have for said labor one sixth of the entire crop and firstly states that defendant came to him and told him that he defendant could not feed him any longer and he would have to look out for himself defendant proposed to him to sell him horse bridle and saddle in part pay for his wages and he didn't take the mair &c for he had nothing to feed her with and was afraid she would die. Also offered to sell him one of his cows and he would not take it. 
Our crop examination states that he worked for Seven months and one week with the exception of a few days that he had a pain in his arm and states that he quit working for defendant the last or about the last of August to the best of his recolection also states that he let in to work for defendant about the first of January and also states that defendant proposed to sell him his main bridel and saddle and he said that he didn't want to buy her. Said conversation was in the month of May 1866.  The first statement above about the mair bridle and saddle took place about the months of June or July and says furthe that defendant offered to see him mair bridle and saddle in part
