them comfortably. I also opened a school for them at the commencement of the year, & have devoted every evening to them, & have had much to encourage me in their improvement- & it affords me much gratification to say that they have behaved well & labored well & our relationship is far pleasanter than times gone by. I do not presume to approach you as one of the destitute, or if so, at least, I come as one making every effort & more than willing to continue to make every effort to restore order & confidence & good feeling & good citizenship in our erring & sinning country. I come as one surrounded with difficulties innumerable - one subjected to privations & annoyances & anxieties
