I ought to have written you before but for various causes have neglected to do so. In the first place I find that in Washington one must economise every moment or else nothing can be done, and secondly I hoped each day to have something more to write about. Arrived at 8.A.M. Thursday saw General Howard and telegraphed you that afternoon that the school estimate was approved in full.  Such other points as I have been enabled to get information on I will here note supplementing the work benefits as I am able.  Mr Buckley's report was referred to Mr Alvord with whom I have not as yet had any extended conversation.  As to more teachers being employed it is stated that the fund derived in each State from the sale of rebel property is to be devoted to teachers in that State and that you are consequently authorized
