Sir
A colored man named Scott Campbell states at this Office that he left Louisiana for Richmond V.A. with his wife having $160.00/100 in his possession and that on the way he was robbed of $110.00/100

His money now being exhausted he asks transportation for himself and wife to Richmond. He states that he last worked for you and that you paid him thirty ($30.) dollars. My object in writing is to ascertain if his statement is correct and if you know of his having one hundred and sixty dollars or there abouts when he left you. An early reply will oblige.

Very Respectfully your Obt Servant
