Everegreen, Conecut County, Ala. Nov 10th 1867

General Swain,
Dear Sir I write you a few lines to inform you, if you are not awar of it.. that the Case which I stated to your honer which was, Pending. a gainst me before "Elias Barlow, which he did me verry great in Justice I, informed you of some of the Particulars. from which I received a Letter from you, stateing that the case Should be attended to in due time. By a captain at Greenville Butler County, Ala. which was in this destrict. I here State, that the case, a gainst Elias Barlow, Esq. For not giveing, a Freedeman any Part of Justice, was sent to the Probate Judge & he notified Barlow, and Barlow immediately went in and stated that he did give the Freedeman Justice and call'd in some one may for Proof. and Barlow stated to the Probate Judge, that he believed that this was done By some of his enimies.. and for him to stop it if he could. and the Probate Judge did so. With out Evere giveing me any chance to Proove the facts, which I can Proove By Several of the very Best Gentlemen
