If there are offices to be filled, or places for one or two men in Northern Ala, and you have any voice or influence in the appointments, there are two men I especially recommend to your notice Lewis M. Douglas and his partner in business Isaac D. Sibley
They were 1st and 2nd Lieut.s in the Union Army, and fought bravely through all the war. They are men of strict morals, temperate, industrious and highly inteligent, and capable of filling important trusts, and of the true loyal type.

They have invested their funds in building a shop & purchase of machinery for the manufacturing doors [[?]] &c. All business is suspended.
They cannot move their effects, and present indications an that they cannot do business sufficient to support them. I am personally and intimately acquainted with them and take pleasure
