Dear Mother

I received yours of the 29th of Oct, and hasten to reply. I will try and get the money by Christmas, or as soon as I can, it will cost Forty Dollars ($40) to take me to Newbern. I am making a little money and will save all I can. as for friends I have very few, and really those who would help me, are not able. we have had so much hard times here for the past year that I think everybody is poor.
Could you send me as much as Forty Dollars I could start at once. you send me as much as you can and I will take care of it until I can add enough to it to pay my way. let me know at once what you do I am very anxious to come to you. for I am sure money will not be any better here soon. I am well and doing very well. I see Frank and Andy Brothers often. They are both well. and send love to all thier folks. After Christmas I think I can have company to Newbern, and it will be more conviennt for me to go there.
