The Greenville daily Advocate of today comes out with the enclosed article, accusing me of applying my influence to my own use and benefit.
There seems to be quite a demand for hands and some men are having difficulty in obtaining sufficient number of hands.
In September last after the burthen of the summers labor was over many Freedmen were thrown out of employment, and in many instances when I would examine the contracts, I would find they were so worded that there was no means of redress and the Freedmen were doomed to sacrifice as an introduction to freedom their wages for a hard summers work, and I would Frequently hear Freedmen remark they never would contract again to labor for any white man.
