Tuscaloosa March 5/67

The unexpected departure of Capt. Peck for Montgomery has led some of our Citizens to believe that his removal from this Post was contemplated. On this supposition we take, the liberty of saying that Capt. Peck has discharged the perplexing duties of his office to the entire Satisfaction of all Concerned. He is a gentleman highly esteemed and respected, not only by union members, but by those to whom Federal officers are generally obnoxious. We sincerely believe that no new appointee would be so acceptable to this Community, and therefore trust he will be returned to us, if not incompatible with your views and the interests of the Government which he so ably serves. - hoping you will pardon the liberty we take in this obtruding ourselves upon your attention -

We remain yours
Most Respectfully
