I have interested Bishop McIlwain in the cause of education in Ala. and the work you are doing for the Freedmen. Would it not be well to send an application to Dr. Sears at once for the school at Montgomery, give him all the arguments in favor of it - also please mail one of your reports to Bishop C. P. McIlwain Cincinnati - 
While there is so much interest in the reconstruction movements as the south. You would be surprised to see with why interest [[strikethrough]] here [[/strikethrough]] the people here receive intelligence of the progress made. A parent could not have more interest and good will towards a child that is manifested by the better class of the citizens here towards the South. and they look upon Alabama under the levels of Gov Patton & yourself as in advance of any other State in practical reconstruction; Every move you make is matched and commended. I look for a large conservative Republican party to spring up in the South. I think Ala. has already the elements for it. I leave here for Washington enroute for Paris. a week from next Monday. Please tell Gov Patton a letter will reach me care Senator Parsons I shall remain there but a few days.
