Judy I regarded as a dangerous character as [[strikethrough]] she [[/strikethrough]] evidence was incidentally elicited during the trial that she had several times threatened to burn the house of a former employer.

In giving the sentence I did I simply acted according to instructions, as I conceived, enjoined by the act of State Legislation for guidance of Justices of the Peace. See page 9 of Penal Code. Also please see section 162 of Penal Code which gives directions for sentences.

"Chain Gang" is a misnomer; as in this country, chains are not used for the confinement of prisoners of this character. but the chain gang here is simply prisoners convicted of light offenses, as petty larceny &c who in a body work upon the public roads &c

To refute the charge that I have condemned this party with an "irregular trial" and a sentence not in accordance with the civil laws of the state. Which has been made to you; and to assure you that so far as my jurisdiction extends, justice to the best of my ability shall be administered impartially, to sex Race or Color,- This is written,
