Hdgrs Sub District of Talladega
Talladega Ala. July 23, 1867.

Col. O. D. Kinsman
Sub Asst. Commsr.
Montgomery Ala.

Colonel
During my recent visit to Bane County Ala. several matters presented themselves to me as requiring the action of an Agent of the Bureau R.F. and A.L. when inquiring for some suitable man to recommend for the Agency of said County I was quietly informed that one D. C. Turentine of Gadsden, Bane County was the present incumbent of said office had been acting for several months under Genl. Callas of Huntsville upon further investigation, I was convinced that Turentine was evading his duty and that he lacked the moral courage to faithfully discharge the duties of said office. I could not find a freedman in the County that knew that Turentine had any thing to do with the Bureau. This County being in the Sub Dist of Huntsville, I will suggest, being confident it would be to the interest of the service to appoint Dr. W. F Ewing an energetic, intelligent and an out spoken Union man to supersede Mr. D. C Turentine as Agent for the Bureau R.F. and AL.
I am, Colonel
Very Respectfully, your obd't serv't
