Talladega Ala. July 29. 1867

Col. O. D. Kinsman
Sub Asst. Commssr

Colonel
On the 13th inst. I made a request to be recompensed for one horse $175 0/100 my private property, stolen from Oxford Ala on the night of the 11th inst, while in discharge of my official duties in compliance with your letter, dated Hdqrs. Dist of Alabama Montgomery Ala. June 22d 1867. At the expense of over two hundred Dollars the horse has been captured in Henry County, Georgia and now will not sell for the money cost to recover it. The horse being recovered under those circumstances, will that be a bar to my receiving any pay for the same or will there be any way for which I can be reimbursed for any portion of the money expended in the recovery of said horse. Knowing the liberalities of your views I feel confident that if it is consistent you will suggest some means by which my loss will bear less upon me than at present
I am, Col
Very Respectfully, your obd't serv't
J. F. McGogy
Sub Asst. Commss'r.
