Maj. Gen. Wager Swayne
Comdg. Dist. of Ala.
Montgomery. Ala.

General,
The petition of Dorcas Morgan respectfully shows that she is over seventy years of age, & resided on the premises of her late owner N.R. Morgan in the Town of Eutaw. Greene Co. Ala. where she has resided since she was set free in 1865, excepting a few months spent with her son in Mobile; that on the death of her son in Mobile she returned to her old home in Eutaw, where she now is. That she has not enjoyed good health for more than two years, being much of the time bed-ridden, & unable to support herself by her own labor as in times past; that her age & infirmities are increasing, & unless something is done in her behalf, she will soon be in need of the necessaries of life; that she has no grown up relations in this state, but has children residing in or near Warrenton, North Carolina, who are anxious to have her with them, & are able & willing to support & take care of her, but are not able to defray the expenses of transportation, & that she has no means of her own for such expenses; She therefore respectfully asks to be furnished transportation by the Bureau of R., F. & A.L. from Demopolis, Ala., the nearest Rail Road depot, to Warrenton, N.C., & as in duty bound she will con pray &c.
