General,

I respectfully ask leave to call your attention to the subjoined statement in regard to some Iron claimed by the Freedmans Bureau & now lying at Fort Morgan.

You are doubtless cognizant of this affair, & I have to petition that this iron may be ordered by you to be sold by the Freedmens Bureau, & then if any claim is put in by other Departments, the proceeds can always be turned over to them.

This iron is needed at present in the South, & would bring a comparatively higher price, while the roads are being repaired, than if sold merely as scrap iron. I am prepared to pay as much as any other bidder & in addition to this, I beg leave to state that after receiving from Major Tracy, an order to dig up, collect & bring away the Iron from the Fort, I incurred $138[[or $158?]] outlay in laborers wages etc. which I am
