said that the wound was not fatal, and that the wounded man would be in on the following day to make a complaint. He did not come however and I could gain no further information at Carrolton. 

I am of the opinion that at least five hundred freedmen in Pickens Co, have been kept from the polls by "violence and threats of violence", but they are afraid to report the facts, nor will they make such complaints until sufficient guarantee is given then that their lives will not be endangered by so doing.
