I have the honor to request your attention to the following facts. by bill of sale from Capt Kerr, A.Q.M of the Freedmans bereau I became the purchaser of a flat Boat for the sum of $637.50. I have been sued in one of the civil courts of this state for the recovery and damages for the same. by referring to the papers which are now before having been forwarded to you by Major Tracy of this place I bought the boat in good faith and paid my money. My position now is exactly this. yesterday I was arrested by the sheriff for the amt of the Judgement against which is about 600$. I have not the means to pay it without the Bereau will refund to me the amt of money which I paid for the flat Boat. the case is one entirely of persecution I being known and called a Yankee.
