November 11th, 1866., The property is hereby accepted and the receipt of the money  hereby acknowledges our peaceful possession of the boat hereby given to Capt. J.J. Osborne.

Suit was brought against me for the recovery of this boat and for damage of detention before the State Circuit Court last december by Daniel James who claimed that he was its owner and that Kerr had unlawfully seized it judgement was given against me I endeavored to obtain the aid of the Freedman's Bureau and of the Military authorities to sustain my title as I had no other redress or show for justice therefore been compelled to pay five hundred and sixty dollars and two hundred and fifty counsel and costs. The sum of this transaction is therefore, I have lost the boat, lost the money
