Sir,

I have the honor to refer the case of Daniel O. Weed for information as to whether he is entitled to pay traveling allowances with bounty.

He states that he was a Rebel prisoner and confined at Chicago Ill. and was released on taking the oath that he then enlisted - April 11th 1865 - in Co. "H" 5th Regt. U.S. Vols, that he was sen to Fort Kearney N.Y. and Nov. 10th 1865 visited Kearney City two (2) miles from the Fort, without leave remained absent two (2) days and joined his company voluntarily. That he was then arrested and confined two and one-half (2 1/2) months, and tried by a General court martial at Fort Kearney for the charge of Desertion- That he remained in confinement until April 1866, when released and ordered to duty with "A" Co. 5th Regt.
