Sir:
A colored man by the name of "Ben Cotton" formerly the property of one "J B Cotton of Newtown Academy Monroe County of this state, has applied to me for assistance to set aside an apprenticeship of his daughter "Chaney"

I was told the following facts as to the case

Ben  on leaving his master about the 1st of 1866 left his daughter to remain as a house girl during the year

Under the law Cotton had her apprenticed under the plea of abandonment without any notice to her father Ben who was
