The warrant was issued the 19th April 1867 the trial was on the 20th & the hearing took place on the 24th April 1867. Was present at the hiring & Leonard was to have certain time to work about & get provisions for his family was to work one day for Mr Doras the week he was hired & was to work about where he pleased the rest of the time. Brooks stated to Leonard that if he should hire him he would let him work about, & he supposed others would do the same. That Leonard was to work the 30 days, but it was understood that he would be allowed time during the 30 day

Calvin C Jones being sworn stated that he was not present at the sale or hiring. On the morning he was to be sold or hired. Mr Brooks in going from Wetumpka home stoped at his house and Mr Brooks asked him if he was going down to his house on that day. Witness told Mr Brooks he was to busy & could not go down & I think I asked him if they were going to sell the negro & he said yes or rather hire him. I then asked him how long it was for & also asked him what crime he had committed, and Mr Brooks said that Mr Garnett had taken out a vagrant
