was explained by the information that the offense was not defined in the Penal Code.  The freedman with whom I conversed appeared to be well satisfied with their treatment generally.  I am of the opinion they do not know what freedom and equal rights means in the rural districts of this vicinity - and that they (the freedmen) are very easily satisfied. 
Mr Kinady a cripple, and late a Rebel soldier has a col'd school of thirty eight scholars.  The children were poorly dressed - the building and furniture were very in different, and the school is in want of books.  The scholars seem to be doing well.

At Union Springs Bullock Co. Judge D. A. McCall and H. H. Smith J.P. gave a favorable account of affairs generally in the County  On being questioned they named the circumstances connected with the killing of one freedman and wounding another by a mob of Rail Road men from Ga.
