Dear sir, 
The Ravages of the small pox left me 8 children [[strikethrough] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] without Father or Mother to be provided and under the laws of the State I apprenticed them. 
Their ages and names are as follows Henry born in 1853 his two little brothers & sisters Scott (alias) Hasty, February 1858 boy Suger born in 1860 Sarah Jane in 1863
The other family of 4 boys are Charley born in 1855 Horton 1857 Dean 1860 Jerry in 1862
The law under which these children have been apprenticed I presume you are familiar with - My bond requires me have them to read & wright. I employed a teacher early this spring since which time six of them have been making fine progress on their education 
A few days since I rec'd a letter from the Judge of Probate saying that he had recd peremptory orders from the sub military commander of this district, to discharge Henry the oldest brother of the 4 first named and Charley & Horton of the last family named from their indentures - This is a matter of
