pretense that he Peter Golson Jr. had turned a Cow into the plantation without leave. About the same date of the occurrence first recorded, William Lee, and Burrell Lee, came to the quarters of the freed people named, when Wm Lee struck Morris Golson, and shot him with a pistol in the back of the head - where the ball appears to remain still. Burrell Lee also struck Morris Golson and both Wm and Burrell Lee, charged about the quarter, Burrell Calling on Wm to shoot the rest of the family. Then the old man Robert Lee came up, when Burrell took his horse and left and Wm went to the house, with his Father. Wm soon left, for a few days, then returned, staid three weeks, and went to Georgia. 

The freed people named moved to Wm Golson's plantation about the 25th of December 1866. Soon after - perhaps a week - Burrell Lee came to the Quarters of the freed people on Wm Golson's place, and entered into dispute with Peter Golson Jr about a debt of $65, which he claimed, a boy named Paul owed him, and that he Peter Golson owed Paul, and must pay him. Peter signified his willingness to satisfy any Just claim against him, when Burrell struck him with his riding
