and while yet a youth took up with a woman on the premises by the name of "Ann" and has recognized her as his wife ever since, and is living with her now as such, and has never at any time recognized the said Ellen as his wife, and has has always expressly & pointedly denied that he was the father of "Jno Bell" and has been frequently accused of it by persons on the place, but has as often denied that such was the father. His fellow servants on the place would frequently insist upon his waiting on the mother & child during her sickness, but he would always refuse upon the express ground that the child was not his.
