Sir:

Your communication of the 30th inst. is received.  I have already forwarded an application for leave to you by mail, sitting forth the fact, that it was necessary to my interest, to obtain such an indulgence, at once.

I have received a proposition to engage in business with a friend from the North, and having rejected a similar offer from the same party not long since, I am fearful a hesitation or delay in going, on my part, will prevent me from success - securing the place - I mentioned the expectation of this proposition, during a personal interview with General Swayne, before coming to this station - also the fact that my acceptance, would probably necessitate my leaving the Service,
