Col. O.D. Kinsman
Sub. Asst. Com.
Montgomery. Ala.

Col,
Your communication of the 27th inst enclosing the endorsement of the commissioner dated the 4th inst is received and in compliance with the directions of [[page rip]] Assistant Commissioner I have situated [[page rip]] Burton Esqr to assume the duties of Sub. Asst. Commissioner of this Sub. District to commence January 1st 1868

Two years experience in the Bureau and an extensive acquaintance in this Sub. District qualify him for the position I am certain that he will give better satisfaction than anybody else I know

I would also urgently recommend Mr. C.L. Drake as clerk of the office. As it would be impossible for Mr. Burton to discharge his duties unaided

I am Respectfully
Your Obdt Servt
A.M Pierce
Brvt. Maj. & Sub. Asst. Com.
