Evergreen Jan 7th 1867

Gen Wager Swayne

Dear Sir
There are several Freedmen families that wishes to enter homestead in this county and have made application to me to know if they could not make the application here without incurring the expense of going to Montgomery as there means are limited. If the proper officer would permit them to make their affidavit here I could see that the money was sent up without delay and save them more than the land will cost them: If the arrangement can be effected please send me the necessary blanks.
There is a family of Freedman & wife and three children that are objects of charity that I wish to get transportation for from Evergreen to the colony at Tarland. They will absolutely be obliged to starve unless provisions are made for them neither one of the parents are more than able to provide for themselves without the children. Please send me transportation for them.
Respectfully your Obt Servt
