Dear Genl.

As I cannot put any provisions and medicines from the Bureau for the sick and destitute freedmen in my immediate vicinity and as I feel great interest in their moral and intellectual improvement, I now ask you for some aid to carry out my objective in that respect.  There will be no shuffling or evasion with us in this matter.  I have secured to know a very excellent house and lot of my own in this place on most reasonable terms and without any guaranties on their part (because they are too poor & needy to pay any thing) for the rest for their year intended to be under a church and school house W. Caldwell who is engaged in preaching
