Dear Sir
Our Freedman school opened on Monday the 11th inst with about 70 scholars a much larger number than I had supposed would attend. the Rev'd Wm Caldwell was present and super inted its organization. Unfortunately the teacher whom we had engaged was not present and has not yet made his appearance.
He consulted with me on the subject and believing that the
teacher employed would attend in a few days, the school was continued under the charge of the most competent scholar then pursued with direction to apply to me in the event of any difficulties in the School - the numbers have measured & will encase and after mature consideration and examinations I determined to suspend the school until a proper and competent
