Lafayette Ala 24th June 1867

Maj. General Swayne

My Dear Sir
Your kind note of the 18th stating that certain provisions had been sent to West Point, subject to my order, was received a week ago, but as yet, nothing has reached there. Many are looking with great anxiety, and they are very much needed by those who have no means of procuring food. I am delighted to report a good wheat crop, but this does not bring meat, or bread, to many of our destitute widows & orphans, and to many of our old and helpless Freedmen, who cannot procure more than a mere subsistence - scarcely this - at present. The corn crop bids fair to be very good, and if we can just get some help for two months to come, I feel pretty certain that all will get on well.

Please General, let me hear soon.

Your Obedient Servant
B.F. Rea
