Dear sir

Mariah Shook a freed woman who is the mother of a girl child between 3 & 4 years of age Said negros formaly belonged to Wm G. Shook. Said Shook made application to have said negro Girl apprenticed to him the mother defended the application but failed in the defence & the child was bound to Shook. The said child was provided for by its mother Mr. S went to where the child was living after the order was made and took it by fiercely whipping it and carried it to his own house some time after Mariah went to Shooks house and carried the child off and had it provided for. Shook took a force and went after the child and took it back in the absence of its mother and still has it. At the last term of the circuit court Shook went before the Grand Jury a got a bill of indictment against its mother for taking it away.
