Marengo County April 22d 1867 Slater O.P. In regard to three children apprenticed last Dec a few hours after the death of their mother to Cornelius Moore. States that they are in worse slavery than they ever were makes application for their release in behalf of their Aunt & Uncle who are able to take care of them. Pierce SA Commr Demopolis, Ala for report and investigation. Attention of the Probate Judge must be called to General Order No. 3 C.S. from these Hd Qrs. By order of Maj Genl Wager Swayne O.D. Kinsman Sub Asst Commr. E & M 7-8 D of D 1867 Office Sub Asst Commissioner Demopolis May 13th 1867 Respectfully returned with the information that the cases of the within named children with a number of others were already undergoing investigation at this Office.
