cotton in Columbus Ga except a few bales to pay the three cent Gov Tax required before shipping.

2nd I claim that the charge that I withheld a portion of their rations is a gross error. My Agent, a Freedman, had instructions to give them the amount due, and he asserts that my instructions were carried out to the letter, and that he never heard a complaint. My dwelling was only a few steps from the Smoke House, they had access to me at any time, and they admit that they made no complaint to me of the deficit. I therefore pronounce it a falsehood, and think it must be reasonable to any one, that they would have complained at once, and not allowed seven months to pass without a murmer on the subject.
