Mr Lemuel Standifer:
Judge of Probate Courts Cherokee County Alabama

Dear, Sir:
Yours of the 1st inst is before us. While it is very unpleasant to us to see or hear of any feeling regarding the donations which have been given by our good people so freely & cheerfully. Cannot see how else we were to act in the premises other than what we did. Mr Casey writes to us that you were selling the corn at auction. And that there was general dissatisfaction regarding it &c, We at once wrote as you have seen. We confess An error in writing that the first shipment was made to Casey, it was for distribution by you. We have made none, nor can we reflect upon you or your conduct. Your statement that the corn was sold to pay Expenses puts a satisfactory And new face on the whole matter. You will therefore with our full sanction receive and distribute corn that is shipped to you for that purpose from us.
