On Monday June 17th 67 between the hours of four and five PM I having business of importance to transact out on Dauphine Street I entered into a car on Dauphine No 2, I was immediately ordered out by the conductor, and he said to me that outside was my place, and that I could not ride in the car. I came off the car, and I, James B. Gibbs do enter suit against the said Dauphine Street Car for infringing upon my right according to the Civil Right Bill.
(Signed) James B. Gibbs

I then appealed to Justice of the Peace J.J. Cone, and he refuses me of entering a suit against the said party and say we had no right to enter suit through him on these parties.
(Signed) James B. Gibbs

The within statement was sworn to and subscribed before me the 18 day of June 1867 by James B. Gibbs.
