Copy of first note from Memory

Friend Kenneth
I have been informed by the freedman Kit Odom, of a rupture between you and him, and from his statement presume that you have no further use for his services, if such be the case, I will esteem it a personal favor if you will afford transportation for his baggage to the ferry at Gainestown.
Please reply immediately, and let me know if you have any objections to my employing him.

Dear Sir
You have been wrongly informed with regard to my discharging Kit Odom. I tell you candidly if you hire him you run the risk of being prosecuted.
